Murray Drive
Cheney-Walters-Echols has played an important role in the development and improvement of transportation infrastructure throughout the Four Corners region. One notable project involved the design and engineering of improvements to L.E. Murray Drive and the Old Bloomfield Highway in Farmington, New Mexico.
The project required extensive coordination and planning, including roadway design, relocation of existing utilities, construction of major drainage structures, and right-of-way acquisition. With a total construction value of approximately $8 million, the project significantly improved transportation flow and infrastructure reliability within the community.
In recognition of the quality and impact of the work, the project received the Highway Quality initiative Award from the Federal Highway Administration, recognizing excellence in transportation project delivery.
Over the decades, Cheney-Walters-Echols has supported hundreds of similar infrastructure and development projects across the Four Corners region.
Dulce, NM
Cheney-Walters-Echols provided engineering design services for a 1.5 million gallon per day wastewater treatment facility serving the Jicarilla Apache Tribe. The new facility replaced an aging treatment plant that had become increasingly difficult to operate and maintain.
The upgraded system significantly improved operational efficiency, reliability, and long-term service capacity for the community. By increasing treatment capacity and incorporating modern treatment processes, the project helped ensure that the Tribe's wastewater infrastructure could support both current needs and future growth.
Projects such as this reflect Cheney-Walters-Echols' experience designing practical, maintainable water and wastewater systems for communities throughout the Four Corners region.
Browning Pkwy
Cheney-Walters-Echols provided engineering services for the development of Browning Parkway, a key transportation corridor connecting East Main Street to U.S. Highway 64 in Farmington, New Mexico.
During the early planning stages, multiple potential alignments were evaluated to determine the most practical and efficient route for the new roadway. After reviewing the alternatives, the City of Farmington selected the alignment that was ultimately acquired, designed, and constructed.
As part of the project's environmental and cultural review process, an archeological study identified a historic Chacoan road segment within the project area. The site required careful mitigation and documentation prior to construction to ensure protection of the cultural resource.
The completed corridor now serves as an important transportation link for the community while demonstrating the balance between modern infrastructure development and preservation of the region's cultural heritage.
